On Wednesday, Renee Locks will celebrate her birthday, and we are celebrating right along side her.
One of my favorite Renee stories: I’ve been with Brush Dance for something like 12 years – Renee has been here much longer than that. When we first met all of those years ago, she greeted me with, “You don’t look like the president of a company.” Uh..thanks?
We became fast friends, and I regularly tell people that when I grow up, I want to be just like Renee. She is a kind environmentalist who is quick-witted and honest. She is political and doesn’t mind sharing her opinions with those around her. Renee raised her family largely on her own in the San Francisco Bay Area where she still lives. She is a yoga devotee, a teacher, an optimist, and – of course – an artist.
This Wednesday, March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD). IWD celebrates social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call-to-action to accelerate gender parity.
At Brush Dance, we celebrate women every day of the year. The items we publish are (mostly) designed with women in mind. Women make up more than 80% of our customers. Four out of five of our employees are women.
We pay fair wages, offer flexible schedules, and contract with vendors who do the same. We don’t do this because someone is watching us – we do these things because it is the right thing.
Whether you’re a hellraiser, a boss lady, or a delicate flower, raise your voice for women.
Every person can play a part in driving better outcomes for women. World leaders, business professionals, LGBTQ+, black, white, purple, everyone. And you know what? Better outcomes for around 50% of the population means better outcomes for all of us.

Brush Dance Weekly Planners are the perfect gift for the organized list-making person in your life. With more than a dozen styles, there is truly something for everyone.
Aquiesse Candles in travel size are terrific for your friends and family members who (like me) need a little spaces of tranquility. With their rich, multi-layered scents and great pricing ($5.99!), these candles cannot be beat. (Travel size shown above. Luxe Tin Shown below.)
Brush Dance Karma Journals are all about making the best of your life in this present moment. Trying your hardest. Taking care of yourself. Embracing the chaos that seems to enter all of our busy lives.
These pretty treasures measure 5×7″ and have 160 lined pages. They feature high-quality paper, and the hard cover has a really nice stay-clean finish. I love them because they are great for on-the-go journaling. (I also keep one handy for list making.)
Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys is my personal favorite because it reminds me that not everything I come across is mine to deal with – and what a relief that is.
I’ve given these handy journals to many friends and family members. Priced at just $9.99, they’re also a great bargain for such high quality.
Each year, Pantone (the color experts) comes out with its Fall Fashion Color Report. Above are the trending colors for this season. There are some really attractive ones in the mix this year – and maybe one or two I’m not so wild about. I love the names – the gray is Sharkskin, the red is Aurora Red, and that purply color on the end is Bodacious.
Today, we’re featuring just a few of our calendar items that are on trend . . .
