This Wednesday, March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD). IWD celebrates social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call-to-action to accelerate gender parity.
At Brush Dance, we celebrate women every day of the year. The items we publish are (mostly) designed with women in mind. Women make up more than 80% of our customers. Four out of five of our employees are women.
We pay fair wages, offer flexible schedules, and contract with vendors who do the same. We don’t do this because someone is watching us – we do these things because it is the right thing.
Whether you’re a hellraiser, a boss lady, or a delicate flower, raise your voice for women.
Every person can play a part in driving better outcomes for women. World leaders, business professionals, LGBTQ+, black, white, purple, everyone. And you know what? Better outcomes for around 50% of the population means better outcomes for all of us.

Last week a few of us got together to talk about the future of our website. Expanding our site to include products that we ourselves didn’t produce was a huge decision for us. We never want to detract from our own calendar and plannercollections, and at the same time, other than our beautiful journals and thoughtful cards, we weren’t seeing a lot of visitors to our site between February and July.
Adding new products has been The Best Decision Ever. You can buy with 100% confidence that we are choosing the best of the best. We only carry products that Brush Dance employees actually use in our every day lives. These items are high-quality, durable, and have gone through months of real life testing by us. We only sell what we love.
The items in this post are Shawna’s favorites. Shawna is our director of operations. When asked to describe what she does, I quickly reply that she does everything. In addition to being responsible for keeping things going smoothly at Brush Dance, Shawna is also a wife and busy mom to two kids. As a former chef, she enjoys planning and hosting dinner parties. She is busy.
Shawna keeps track of various projects and planners in the Leucchtrum1917 Journal. She prefers the dot grid, but we also carry them in lined versions. While she’s used different systems over the years for managing it all, Shawna is currently embracing the popular trend of bullet journaling. The paper in her journal holds up very well to a wide variety of pens and markers, including the the Microns shown above and the colorful Staedtler Tri-Plus below.
As for that Hellraiser pouch shown above? I don’t know what to say about that (other than the fact that I have one, too!). Oh, and it is just $6.49 on our website. Want a closer look? Check out our quick video (there’s no sound – safe for work!).
Thank you for sharing your favorite items with us, Shawna!
Shown above are the Pantone colors for Spring 2017. We’re embracing each of them in own way at Brush Dance.
Finally, we are on the other side of winter and heading fast into spring. Winter isn’t my season. Spring – yes!
We have had so much rain in the San Francisco Bay Area this winter. It’s nothing like the snow in other parts of the US, but it does make everything just a little more of a challenge. I’m looking forward to those easy breezy days.
Get that bright pop of color you’ve been looking for all winter.
Want to be on-trend with color, but not spend a lot? Brush Dance has the answer. Most of our items are under $20, many under $10.
Take a trip to the beach with this gently scented candle from Aquiesse. Just $5.99.
How is the end of winter going for you? Surviving? Thriving? We’d love to hear all about it.
We usually keep it casual at my house. One year, we might exchange small gifts, the next just a card. We were once in Las Vegas for Valentine’s Day – along with about a million other people (won’t be doing that again). This year, we have a houseguest arriving.
I can imagine my husband giving me a a bouquet of pretty wild flowers – or a pair of hilarious sassy socks from Blue Q. He gets me.
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Maybe you have a Galentine’s Day party instead (or in addition to?)
At Brush Dance, we’re picky. Picky paper people. Our Weekly Planners, for example, feature luxurious 120 gsm paper that holds up well to most types of pens. We like quality.
Years ago, I tried my first Leuchttrum Notebook and have been using them ever since. I love all of the features – the elastic band, sturdy covers, ribbon markers, numbered pages (!!), and a handy index – but I really love the paper quality. Pencil, pens (including fountain pens), fine liners – nearly every writing instrument works well with these notebooks.
In carrying these versatile notebooks, we are keeping our promise to you – to only sell you the very best items, items that we ourselves actually use. At $19.50, these are more expensive than your usual back-to-school notebooks. However, if you are looking for a truly satisfying writing experience, Leuchttrum Notebooks will not disappoint.
We’re carrying the popular “medium” size (A5) in a variety of colors. We have them lined and with dot grid paper. Check Them Out Here.
Here we are, deep into winter. I hope you’re staying warm. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we don’t get the kind of frigid winter that other parts of the country experience. (I lived in New York for a long time – I get it, I really get it. Slush is serious business, right?)
Today, I’m wishing you less stress. More relaxation. A slower existence – even if just for a little time each day. We give so much of ourselves – work, husbands, wives, partners, children. We simply must take time for ourselves. We must rejuvenate.
I have some go-to stress relieving techniques. Big deeeeeeep breaths and I’ve started meditating this year (I think it’s going to stick this time), and one of my tried-and-true-forever-and-ever stress relievers is to light a candle, put on some gentle music, and climb into a hot bath.
I nearly always bathe right before bed. The coziness of it all puts me in the right frame of mind to fall asleep quickly.
Now that the new year is well on its way, our focus at Brush Dance turns from calendars and planners to all of the other wonderful items we sell.
I thought I’d share a few of my favorite bags with you today.
Bags. I’m into all of our new, fun bags. The one shown above is a limited edition collaboration between us and our pals over at Chico Bags. I love this quote, the bright bright orange – our art combined with fabulous Chico Bags and you really can’t go wrong.
We’re all about fonts and typography at Brush Dance. This handy zipper pouch makes me happy. It’s the perfect size to hold some pens and a small notepad. Zip it up, toss in my tote, and I’m ready to go.
And check this out . . .
Here are a couple of other smaller pouches that I adore . . .
We truly have a bag for everyone – big, small, plain, funny, small, girly, cute, serious. I hope you’ll love them, too!
