To love is first of all to accept yourself as you actually are.
Thich Nhat Hanh
Wednesday is Valentine’s Day. I’m proposing that we not only express our love to those important people in our lives, but that we also love ourselves just a little more this week. Let’s work on accepting ourselves as we actually are, shall we?
Overall, we’re pretty self-critical. And why is it that we say things to ourselves that we would never dream of saying to anyone else? Insanity.
“Your thighs are so big. They’re really an embarrassment!”
“You’re not smart enough to be included this conversation.”
“You’re not thin enough to wear that.”
“You’re not enough.”
We could visit all of the places where we receive these messages, but instead let’s focus on letting those old messages go and focus on loving ourselves. It turns out that when we accept and love ourselves more, we are able to accept and love others more deeply, too.
Replace those old messages with new mantras.
My body sustains me.
I am smart in ways that others are not.
I don’t need to fit into a certain body type to be valued.
I am enough!
It’s going to take some time and practice, but we can do it. We can learn to accept ourselves exactly as we are.
In addition to all of our wonderful Calendars and Planners, we also have a huge assortment of Stocking Stuffers that are perfectly priced for your holiday shopping budget. Let’s explore . . .
Kept Going Pin
Took My Own Advice Pin
We love this collection of Everyday Bravery enamel pins from Emily McDowell Studios. Finally, recognition for the things in our daily lives that require courage. Maybe we should all get one of these as a reminder that we don’t have to please everyone?
Speaking of pins, ACTIVIST is one of my favorites from Seltzer Goods (a brand that is new to Brush Dance). Get one for yourself and one for your BFF because you know you’re on the right side of history.
Think you know your friends and family members? Avoid those awkward silent moments by bringing out a box of 135 questions to keep the conversation going. There’s a Family Edition for all ages, and a Do It Yourself Therapy set for the brave among us. See all Table Topics (we’ve listed some sample questions – making it easier to choose the perfect set for you).
Halloween got its start over 2000 years ago as a Celtic celebration marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. There are all sorts of regional traditions across the globe for Halloween, and we have our own tradition here at Brush Dance:

Today, our Creative Manager, Susan, shares some of her favorite items with us. In case you missed them, here are links to the other posts in this series: ShawnaKarma
Susan has such an important job at Brush Dance. She is responsible for our products from conception, through printing and production. It’s one of those positions where a person needs to be both creative/artistic and well-organized. A rare combination, and she fits the bill perfectly!
Our 2018 Dreamer’s Realm Wall Calendar is one of Susan’s top picks. She said, “Catrin Welz-Stein’s art is so magical and beautifully painted that it is a treat to look at each image for a month. I will never grow tired of her work.”
All of us love this Planner (and the coordinating Journal!). Susan says she gets lots of approving nods while carrying this Planner – and she wishes she could use it for four years instead of one!
Well. Sometimes, you just have to say it how it is, right? Susan thinks this pair of Blue Q Socks would make a great gift for all of our feminist friends. She loves the bold and colorful Girl Power statement. These socks are not just pretty – they are comfy and hold up great.
The adorable Coin Purse above would make a great gift. Susan envisions filling it with pennies and presenting it as a fun-filled (?) birthday gift! Ha!
The larger tote is, “distinctive and colorful. You can use it for your airport gear (the zipper keeps things secure!), beach stuff, kid stuff, or for anything that won’t fit in your purse. And since it’s about 15 inches wide, it’s not too big or cumbersome.”
Susan’s final favorite pick is Table Topics. She had this to say:
My family has lots of talkers. And, we all love games. Table Topics is a catalyst for interesting and lively conversations about things we’ve never talked about as a group. When was the last time you discussed:
Have you ever been escorted out by security?
Who’s had too much plastic surgery?
Would you rather spend a week in jail or serve two weeks community service?
You’ll learn a thing (or two!) about your friends and family, and have some fun in the process. If you exhaust these 135 questions, there are plenty more versions of the game you can pick up.
And there we have it! Susan’s Favorite Things! I love that she has eclectic taste and a great sense of humor!
I also wanted to let you know that we’re planning some exclusive sales for people who are on our mailing list. You can sign up on our website!
We also like the Leuchtturm Lined Notebooks for new graduates. We’ve written about these high-quality stylish books lots. Hard cover, great paper quality, two fabric page markers, and an elastic band to help your grad keep it all together. Black is shown above – and we have many other colors and styles.
Of course, there’s nothing saying you have to give the graduate in your life a serious gift. Brush Dance has you covered! The 401K Retirement Plan Coin Purse shown above measures just 4″ x 3″ – perfect for your life’s savings, yes?
Public Service Announcement: Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14 this year.
Is your mom traditional? A bit of a hippie? Does she love spending time in the kitchen? Maybe she has a crazy sense of humor? We definitely have something for every mom on your list.
A full 80% of Brush Dance employees are women and 100% of those moms. When it comes to what moms want – we know what we’re talking about. While the items above are absolutely wonderful and we want to encourage you to shop at Brush Dance – most moms really do just want that hug, phone call, and time with family.
